Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown

August 22, 2019

It can be overwhelming finding a hotel for the first days/weeks/month at a new city you are moving into while looking for an apartment. There are so many things to consider: Is the place kid-friendly? are there supermarkets nearby? is it affordable for an extended stay? Blah. Blah. It's hard to be decisive about this. And, yes, we've checked out a lot!

In the end, we've booked a brand we've been comfortable with since our move to the US. We stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown. This is our 4th stay with the brand.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown is different from the typical Homewood Suites aesthetic. It's more like a hotel. The lobby is luxurious. It has a bar and a restaurant. This is because the building is dual branded with Hilton Garden Inn.

Location

It is conveniently located downtown. A short walking distance to Parliament Hill, Sparks Street (this is an outdoor pedestrian mall), restaurants and a few minutes drive to ByWard Market, Rideau Canal, supermarkets, museums, and parks.

Due to this, the hotel is busy. The reception has queues; weekends in particular. The breakfast area is crowded. They host events too like weddings. You could imagine the number of people coming in and going out in a given week.

Parking

Convenience comes with a price. We paid $25 CAD for hotel parking daily. Yes, you read that right, every single day! In fact, you'd have to pay for parking space everywhere in downtown except on weekends in specified areas. This is an extra cost to prepare for if you have a car.

The Hotel Room

We booked a studio and it is relatively small to the other rooms we've stayed at in other Homewood locations. No complaints there. It was decent enough for us and for our 2-year-old son. He is able to play and run around still. Kids are so flexible!

The view from our room is great. I appreciate that I can observe the buzzing city life downstairs. Our son loves it too. He would jovially name the objects outside.

In Conclusion

I'd say, staying downtown is best. There are countless things to do yonder. Though it cost more it's worth the price you pay.

He is sound asleep as of writing. I'm glad we choose to stay at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. I can finally relax. Talk to you soon. ;)
