Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown: Where to Stay in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

It's overwhelming to find a place to stay in for the first days/weeks/month at the new city you are moving into while looking for an apartment.

That's because there are so many things to consider: Is the place kid-friendly? Are there supermarkets nearby? Can we afford it for an extended stay? We must have looked into a lot of them.

In the end, we decided to stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown. We have trusted this brand since our relocation to the US, back in December 2014. This is our 4th stay with them.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown is different from the typical Homewood Suites aesthetic. It's more like a hotel. The lobby is luxurious. It has a bar and a restaurant. This is because the building is dual branded with Hilton Garden Inn.

Location

It is conveniently located downtown. A short walking distance to Parliament Hill, Sparks Street (this is an outdoor pedestrian mall), restaurants and a few minutes drive to ByWard Market, Rideau Canal, supermarkets, museums, and parks.

Due to this, the hotel is busy. The reception has long queues, particularly on weekends. The breakfast area is crowded.

They host events too like weddings. You could imagine the number of people coming in and going out in a given week.

Parking

Convenience comes with a price. We paid $25 CAD for hotel parking daily. Yes, you read that right, every single day! In fact, you'd have to pay for parking space everywhere in downtown except on weekends in specified areas. This is an extra cost to prepare for if you've rented a car.

The Hotel Room

We booked a studio room. It is relatively small compared to the other rooms we've stayed in at other Homewood locations. Nope, I'm not complaining. The size is decent enough for us and our 2-year-old son. He is able to play and run around still. Kids are so flexible!

The view from our room is great. I appreciate that we can witness the bustling city life downstairs. Our son loves it too. He would jovially name the objects outside.

In Conclusion

If you're looking for a place to stay in Ottawa, ON, Canada, check out Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown. I guarantee, staying downtown is best. There are countless things to do yonder. It will cost you more but it's worth the price you pay.

Also, the place works great for families with small children. Plus, I prefer to have a kitchenette in our room because we are on an extended stay. It's a handy room feature to have considering that we keep ordering our meals from UberEats.
