Short Day Trip from Ottawa: Perth, Ontario

It was a spontaneous trip. Nothing new. Most of our small-town trips from Ottawa were spontaneous. Unlike our first visit to Perth, the town is alive and the weather warm, perfect for an afternoon stroll.

Most of the shops were still close but not the restaurants. Outdoor dining is tantalizing my latent food connoisseur for new recipes.

"Look at that restaurant. There's a long line. Given the people are willing to wait, let's queue up." I suggested.

"Hmm... but we've already marinated the meat for dinner later." The hubby hesitated.

Shut down, I conceded but lightened up when we saw the park.

We didn't saw it on our first trip in May. It was cold and we didn't do much foot exploration. Sightseeing was done in the car. Imagine my surprise to find the park located right next to downtown. How come we miss it the first time?

Finding a free picnic table, I unpack all the snacks we bought: dried raisins, crackers, cookies, gummy bears, seaweed snacks, and drinks. I laid them on the table and proceeded to roam around to take photos.

Have you seen a tadpole with legs? Go ahead and laugh, it was my very first time to see it live. Yep, I've seen tadpoles that look like black dots in a pond but never tadpoles with legs.

I was about to take a photo of it when I saw a forest tent caterpillar (not again), wiggling to get out of the current. Rushing to the picnic table, I warned our group of the danger. To our horror, we saw a number of them crawling at the legs of our picnic table. Eeek!

Well, that wraps up our trip. We didn't want to endure another moment with them caterpillar moths, like what we did during our trek at Morris Island Conservation Area.

On our way home, we savored the sight of quaint Victorian-era houses lining up the side of the street. The lawns were maintained, the paint coatings fresh, the patios clean.

Wonder if one of them is an Airbnb rental, you know, to get a taste of what it's like to live there.

At home, we boiled corn and cooked the marinated meat for dinner.

"Why don't we buy outdoor furniture so we could do patio dining at home?" I look at the hubby.

"Like the idea." He smiled.
