Home and property owners should never underestimate the potential of water to cause damage to one’s property and to one’s health, from simple leaks and flooding that can lead to serious structural issues to dealing with dangerous molds and mildew that can cause possible health issues.

Hence, highlighting the reasons why it is important to install a drainage system on one’s property.

Do I have a blocked drain?

There are several signs that let you know when your drainage system is no longer in top shape. Gurgling sounds after flushing the toilet, water levels in the sink or tub draining slowly, leaking walls or ceilings, and bad-smelling water can be signs of a blocked drain.

The blockage can be attributed to a variety of reasons, including a structural defect in the drainage system, the build-up of hair, grease, and other sticky substances, the presence of a number of improperly disposed waste, and even tree roots in the pipe.

How are drainage problems fixed?

All drainage systems require clearing from time to time but when you observe these signs with your own drainage system, it is urgently in need of a maintenance check or for improvements where necessary.

There are several techniques that drainage solution companies use to unblock drains including rodding, jetting, or mechanical drain clearing.

For example, when clearing a blocked sewer at home, the basic technique is to use flexible rods, also known as rodding. However, jetting is recommended as a quick and cost-effective solution.

Jetting can help clear debris and remove fat as well as other blockages by sending powerful jets of water down the drain. But, when jetting is not possible, mechanical drain clearing using a cable machine to gain access to limited spaces can be employed.

Blockages can most certainly be prevented from happening, and you can with these easy practices that should be incorporated into everyday household chores. Here are some ways to prevent clogs in your drains:

Whether it’s in the kitchen or the bathroom, you should be careful in the waste that goes down the drain. Make sure that you do not throw food into the pipes and be careful not to pour grease, oil, or fat directly into the sink pipes.

Avoid throwing objects such as sanitary pads, tampons, and wet wipes into your toilet bowl. Also, collect the hair and other debris that gathers on the drainage holes.

2. Cover the drain’s opening with a filter, screen, or drain-grate.

To minimize problems with hair and other debris from clogging the drainage system, use a filter, screen, or drain-grate to cover the opening of the drains.

3. Use hot water.

Hot water keeps oils moving down the drain, so run hot water through the kitchen sink after every use. You can also use baking soda followed with hot water to clean the sink and absorb any foul smells.

You can also pour a cup of vinegar, leave it for 30 minutes, and then pour very hot water to remove build-up in the drain pipes.

A good drainage system allows the free flow of water, thereby preventing the accumulation of water that can lead to either stagnation or flooding. So, while a properly installed drainage system can help prevent water damage, poor drainage can result in the opposite, which can be quite costly.

On top of this, it is also critical that the drainage system is maintained and constantly improved in order for it to effectively protect property and keep any water-related issues at bay.
