At-Home School Supplies Organization Ideas

Back to school means one thing for our flex room: figuring out where kuya's school stuff actually goes.

This room does a lot. It's our playroom, our TV room, kuya's tutor room, and yes, it's also where I sneak in a workout, so calling it a flex room is pretty accurate. We do regular cleanup in here too, because living in Texas, the last thing we want is bugs finding their way into a pile of forgotten toys. So this room is never really allowed to get messy for long.

 

But this back-to-school season, it wasn't just the usual pickup. It was about finding a real place for kuya's school supplies, without throwing off everything that was already working in this room.

Starting With What We Already Had

This shelf has been with us for years. It used to live in daddy's office before making its way into this flex room, and it's been holding kuya's school stuff the whole time, just never actually organized. So instead of starting from scratch, the goal was giving what was already there an actual system. If you're wondering about the shelf itself, ours is similar to this one.

Sorting the Small Stuff First

The trickiest part of organizing school supplies is usually the small stuff — pens, erasers, sharpeners, the little things that end up loose at the bottom of a bag. We used this stackable drawer organizer to give every small item its own spot. The clear drawers make it easy to see what's inside at a glance, which matters most for us because I let kuya organize this part himself. He can find what he needs without digging, and putting things back is just as easy.

Baskets for the Bigger Items

For anything too big for the drawers, like notebooks, folders, and books he's using for tutor sessions, we added these storage baskets to the shelf. They keep the bigger school items grouped and easy to grab, without cluttering the open shelf space that still needs to hold everything else this room is responsible for.

Keeping Paper Organized

Loose papers were another spot that kept slipping into chaos. A stackable paper organizer gave us a dedicated spot for worksheets and papers still in use, and a file organizer took care of anything that needed to be filed away and kept flat, rather than crammed into a drawer.

Letting Kuya Take Ownership

The best part of this whole setup isn't the products, it's that kuya gets to organize his own pens, erasers, and small supplies so it's easy for him to find his own stuff. Meanwhile, the toddler's corner stays exactly as it should, just for play. For now, everything has a place.
