Bukit Timah Nature Reserve: Things To Do in Singapore

Last weekend, the hubby and I visited Bukit Timah Nature Reserve for a quick hike and some fresh air. You know, once in a while it's good to get in touch with nature and destress after a long week of sitting at the office.

GETTING THERE

First, we took the train and alighted at Bukit Batok MRT station. From the MRT station, we walk past the bus terminal, crossed the road at the opposite side, and flagged down bus #178 at the bus stop near the skywalk. We alighted 6 stops later.

Note: Bukit Timah Nature Reserve will be closed this coming September 2014-March 2015 for renovations. If you're planning to visit try to visit by August else wait after the renovations are done.

BUKIT TIMAH NATURE RESERVE

We had a good walk from the bus stop to the nature reserve. The walk took us 10-15 minutes because we took the road opposite the nature reserve. Yeah, I know we didn't check the map. The good thing is that we realized our mistake and managed to walk in the right direction. Look who greeted us at the entrance of the nature reserve.

A few more steps ahead and we've reached the visitor center.

We took a few photos and started our hike.

Whew, what a hike! The road is steep. My sweat is starting to run on my back even if I've only managed to take 20 steps from the visitor center. Though the road may be steep, I find the walk very convenient because of the asphalt slope.

There are a lot of signs from left to right on the way up. Please do read them up. It's very helpful especially when you'd encounter snakes.

There are moments when you'd pause and catch up with your breath. Don't forget to look around, enjoy the forest scenery, and stay at the moment for a while.

On the way up you'd also noticed side trails. We didn't venture to these trails so we don't know where it leads too. And oh yeah, these trails are notoriously steep so be careful if you opt to tread these paths.

BUKIT TIMAH SUMMIT

And finally, we've arrived at Singapore's highest point called Bukit Timah Summit. Woohoo!! We finally made it to the top.

We rested at the hut for a while and decided to visit the Hindhede Quarry next. On our way to the quarry, I especially exhort my husband to hurry up because I don't want to miss the view of the quarry before dark.

We are in a race with time. We took the quarry road thinking this would lead to the quarry with the view of the mountain wall.

QUARRY ROAD

While treading Quarry Road I caught a glimpse of the beautiful sunset in between the trees so I took a photo of it. I know the photo did not give justice to how beautiful it was.

This is what we found at the end of Quarry Road, a beautiful vista.

Yay! We found the water. ;) Well, it wasn't the place we're expecting to be nevertheless it was still a beautiful spot. If you could see the terrace at the opposite end, it is where we should be. So again I've exhorted my husband to hurry up so that we could still see the view at the opposite side of Hinhede Quarry before dark.

True enough, the walk down is so much faster than the walk up but you have to be very careful not to run as I've mentioned earlier it was a steep slope.

HINDHEDE QUARRY

So we've arrived at the Visitor Center once again and from there we tread the path leading to the Lookout Point.

And so we've finally arrived at the Lookout point. It was quite a walk but worth the view.

Can you spot our new found friends?

We stayed at the Lookout point for a while to rest and take some photos. Afterward, we headed back home for dinner. And so our quick weekend adventure ends. It was a fun bonding experience with my husband. Oh, I can't wait to tread the next nature reserve. ;)
